Avo Vision’s CFE Programme Strengthens Sustainable Property Development Through Umastandi Simulations
Avo Vision continues to drive economic empowerment through its Consumer Financial Education (CFE) programme, a key pillar focused on equipping individuals and entrepreneurs with practical financial and business skills. Under this programme, Avo Vision supports property entrepreneurs through the Umastandi Simulations, a hands-on learning experience designed to strengthen sustainable property development and long-term financial stability.
The Umastandi Simulations workshop which began on 15 November and will run until 6 December in Mpumalanga. It places participants in real-life scenarios that mirror the realities of property development and property management. This practical approach allows aspiring and emerging property owners to learn, make decisions, and understand the financial consequences of those decisions, all within a controlled, guided environment.

Building Sustainability Through Strong Planning
The first session exposed participants to a feasibility study and the importance of proper planning. This step is foundational because every decision made at the beginning influences the sustainability and success of the entire project.
Participant Paulos Mofokeng shared how planning affects long-term growth.
“Some of us started renting out our properties without proper planning or even ensuring that there are rental agreements in place and this led to a lot of challenges. This session taught us to go back to the drawing board and ensure that we plan properly to grow our properties,” He said.
By strengthening participants’ planning skills, the CFE programme ensures they are better positioned to build income-generating properties that can withstand risks, minimise losses, and support sustainable livelihoods.

Responsible Construction for Long-Term Impact
The second phase of the Simulations focused on the construction cycle. Participants learned how to choose contractors, calculate construction costs, manage payments and budgets, and include contingency funds, all essential practices for responsible and sustainable property development.
Participant Sphiwe Mahlangu reflected on her own experience, noting how this training will influence future decisions:
“I made a big mistake when selecting a contractor when I did some renovations at my property in Arnot. The contractor kept on asking for money and at the end the construction was more than I budgeted for, and the work was not of good quality. Today I learned I must check the track record of the contractor before I appoint him.”
Through these lessons, participants are empowered to avoid costly errors, protect their investments, and ensure that the buildings they develop are durable, safe, and economically viable.
CFE as a Driver of Sustainable Entrepreneurship
Avo Vision’s CFE programme goes beyond teaching financial literacy. It links knowledge with practical enterprise development, ensuring that entrepreneurs not only understand money but also know how to apply financial principles in their daily business decisions.
The Umastandi Simulations embody this mission. By equipping participants with real-world skills in planning, budgeting, and project management, the programme helps them build sustainable property businesses that can generate long-term income and contribute to South Africa’s broader economic development.
Through CFE, Avo Vision continues to invest in individuals and communities, turning financial knowledge into lasting economic opportunity.
